2023 Teacher Mini Grants


Posted January 2, 2023. — In support of teacher excellence and student achievement, the Calexico Education Foundation has approved funds to be allocated to Calexico teachers under the “Teacher Special Project Grant” program. The purpose of the grant program is to encourage and reward imaginative teaching that will directly benefit our students and bring awareness to our community about the positive things happening in our schools. Grants will be awarded in the amount of up to $1,000 per project.

2019-2020

Dia De Los Muertos Altar

Calexico High School Teacher, Guadalupe Espino, and her AP Spanish Language and Culture classes create an incredible “Altar de Muertos” that was displayed at Calexico High School Varner Gym. By making it their own, it allowed students to connect with their roots and traditions by incorporating pictures of their loved ones. Students identified and researched the meaning of “Altar de Muertos” according to Mexican tradition. They were engaged and proud to showcase their altar to the CHS community and Dool Elementary School. This has become an unforgettable experience for the students involved.

first robotics program

The Calexico High School Unimatics robotic team has continued to successfully develop student interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students continue to develop and improve their robotic designs and projects based on past experiences and industry guidance. The Calexico Educational Foundation has continued to support this innovative program which seeks to spark student interest in 21 century skills and careers.

Dool Elementary School Culinary Arts Program

The culinary arts program at Dool Elementary School was funded to continue their hands on student program. Cooking activities support cooperative learning, problem solving, creativity and exploration as students future career possibilities in the field.

Kennedy Gardens Elementary STEM Program

Kennedy Gardens Elementary School was funded to support their research and exploration of solar energy and power. Various activities and instruction supported the student exploration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students culminated their extended learning by building solar powered cars.


2018-2019

FIRST Robotics Program

Calexico Education Foundation Teacher Mini Grant awarded to Louie Garcia (teacher) and Mario Magallanes (teacher) in support of the CHS FIRST Robotics Program.

The FIRST Robotics Program is a global program which fosters creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and gracious professionalism. The Calexico FIRST Robotics Program develops 21st century technology skills by having students plan, design, develop, build and compete with their very own robots. Under the direction of CHS teachers Mr. Louie Garcia and Mr. Mario Magallanes, students work to construct a competition ready robot.


Dool elementary School Culinary Arts Program

Calexico Education Foundation Teacher Mini Grant awarded to Samuel Gutierrez in support of the Dool School Culinary Arts Program.

Dool School provides a culinary Arts Program that provides hands-on culinary arts exploration, cooking activities and opportunities to visit the Calexico High School award winning culinary arts program. Students at Dool School explore colleges and career opportunities in the culinary arts and industry.

Circle of Friends

Calexico Education Foundation Teacher Mini Grant awarded to Alma Flores (teacher) and Cami Sturdevant (school psychologist) in support of the CHS Circle of Friends program.

Circle of Friends is an inclusion program for students with and without disabilities, that establishes an understanding and acceptance of differences on school campuses. Funding will be used to provide disability awareness and anti bullying education, school activities, crafts, art projects, hands on activities that would enhance social communication and friendship among students.
